Is known by it's industrial history, not many people knows that from 1850s till 1960s it was called "the Little Italy", because so many Italians  living in the area. The Clerkenwell used to be an industrial heart of the London. But nowadays it  is more artistic/fashionable area for young professionals,nightclubs and high profile restaurants. Mostly design professional find Clerkenwell attractive. The old warehouses and factories are now transformed to be galleries and showrooms. The most of Londons architects got their offices in the area. Also the slum housing was turn to be exclusive lofts for rich clientele.

Farringdon station is both rail and tube service, is the only station in Clerkenwell. However Angel, King's Cross St Pancras, Chancery Lane and Barbican stations are all nearby the Clerkenwell.
