The central city district in the historic part of famous London East End and fancy part of Central London (including London Borough of Hackney). There are two legends telling the story of the areas name. One of them is saying that the place was originally called "Shore's Ditch", after one of Edwards IV mistresses - Jane Shore, who died in the area. In the other story the region was known as "Soersdith" long before Edward had his mistress, and it was called that in reference to drain or watercourse as it has been a boggy area.
Nowadays Shoreditch is a colourful and multicultural place with posh schools and neat gardens on Muswell Hill and  Bangla-town and Brick Lane, famous from delicious curry. The most popular school in the area is Hackney University Technical College, which was the first Technical College in London. Brick Lane Market is the best example of the edgy side of the Shoreditch. It is full of extravaganza starting from oriental cuisine restaurants, finishing on ramshackle bars and independent shops. Many walls and front shops in the area are covered in graffiti.

The most famous inhabitants of the area are artist Damien Hirst and William Shakespeare. Shoreditch is still really attractive among group of artists and celebrities. You can run into Miquita Oliver, T4 Presenter, Noel Fielding the comedian or Barbara Windsor film and television actress.
